You will be working on a multi-step project the next several weeks about our great home state, North Carolina! We will be using the research model eWISE that you have learned about to do this! This week, you will start with the first two letters of the process, W and I.
WONDER: This stage of research is when we ask questions and identify the problem. The questions you will be researching include:
What is the climate in North Carolina?
What are things to do and places to visit in North Carolina?
How is the education and job market in North Carolina
And more!
INVESTIGATE: This stage of research is when you wil work to gather the information. You will use various resources to find factual information that answers our questions. Use the following websites to research more about your home state, North Carolina! Remember that when you take notes you do not need to write in complete sentences, but you need to write enough that it will make sense later when you look at it! Also, remember to cite your sources. You should keep a list of resources used on the back of your paper! Recreation in North Carolina NCPEDIA NC Gov Visit NC NC Colleges
North Carolina- Opinion Writing
The last couple of weeks you have begin to research WISEly and have completed the wonder and investagtion steps of the process. Now you will be starting the third step of the process, SYNTHESIZE: Synthesize means you make sense of what you have researched. You will make inferences and summaries and organize your information. Someone you met on an airplane asked your advice on whether they should move to North Carolina or not. You need to write an opinion piece on whether you think North Carolina is a good place to live. This is your opinion, so there is no right or wrong; but whatever you decide you MUST support with facts! The research you have completed the last couple of weeks should help you form your opinion and will also serve as the facts you need to support your idea. Click here to see an example of what you will be doing.
The last part of eWISE is to express! This is where you work to create something that will communicate your findings. You prepare a final product that will be shared with others. For this assignment you will be completing an opinion writiing piece. This piece of writing will be shared with your classroom teacher so that it can be used as a writing grade, SO DO YOUR BEST WORK!! Click here to see how to begin writing your opinion piece!

After the 3 minutes is up, you will choose the format for your writing and begin. You need to write at least 6 high quality sentences that match the topic. Then, you may add a picture. Once the teacher checks your work you may print. Click here to create a fun writing prompt.
